Salvatore “Sam” Maugeri
Trainer & Assessor

Salvatore “Sam” Maugeri, a culinary educator with deep roots in the rural farmlands of New South Wales, was born to Italian immigrant parents who instilled in him an appreciation for quality produce from a young age. Despite the initial challenge of English being his second language, Sam’s passion for food transcended barriers, leading him to start his apprenticeship in a hometown pizzeria during his early 20s.

Sam’s professional journey has been as rich and varied as the flavors he crafts, having honed his skills in diverse settings across the NSW central coast and ultimately in Sydney since 2004. His resume spans cafes, restaurants, hotels, and function centers, including a significant tenure at the Radisson Plaza hotel. Known for his strong work ethic and personable nature, Sam has built lasting relationships within the industry, often reuniting with past employers due to mutual respect and admiration.

Currently enlightening minds at Giro Osteria in Cronulla, Sam balances his role as a sous chef with his commitment to education. His culinary wisdom, drawn from both traditional practices and modern innovations like sous vide techniques, enriches his students’ learning experience. Sam’s teaching is flavored with life lessons on balance and dedication, embodying the influence of his heritage and his mother’s exceptional cooking, making him a treasured asset to the college community.
